Parent Provided Transportation Contract Option

Dr. Ken Sauer School is a school of choice and we welcome students from outside of our boundary area. We are not able to offer city wide bussing, however we are excited to announce that MHPSD will provide a transportation contract to a parent at the primary address who lives outside our boundary area and drives their child(ren) to/from school. The parent provided transportation contract is a yearly reimbursement program that is available to parents who meet the following criteria:

  • Child(ren) enrolled and attending Dr. Ken Sauer School by Sep 30, 2024
  • Live outside of the Dr. Ken Sauer School boundary (residing at least 1km away from the school) – check boundary map here and not eligible for school bus transportation.
  • A parent commits to driving their child(ren) to and from school for duration of the 2024-2025 school year

If you meet the above criteria, please complete the Parent Provided Transportation Contract in Google forms. Alternatively, you can reach out to the school office to request a paper copy of the Parent Provided Transportation Contract. Contracts must be completed and submitted by Oct 31st, 2024. Please read through the frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Deadline to apply for the funding?
Deadline is Oct 31, 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

When will I know if my contract has been approved?
You will receive an email confirmation within 3 weeks of submitting your contract in google forms. If 3 weeks has passed and you haven’t heard from us, please email transportation@sd76.ab.ca

How much will I receive in transportation funding?
Parents are eligible to receive $700 per year, this amount is for the transportation of all children that are enrolled at Dr. Ken Sauer School.

When will I receive the funds?
The entire contract needs to be fulfilled prior to the funds being distributed. Payment for the 2024-2025 school year will be processed in the summer of 2025 and issued in August after the term of the contract has been fulfilled. If you choose to leave the Dr. Ken Sauer School during the year and are not able to fulfill your contract, please contact transportation@sd76.ab.ca as partial payments will only be made on a case by case basis.

How will I receive the funds?
By cheque. Cheques will be mailed in August of 2025.

I’m not sure if we live inside the Dr. Ken Sauer School Boundary area:
No problem, check the boundary map or inquire by emailing transportation@sd76.ab.ca. (ensure that you include your primary address, school name and the child(ren)’s names and grades in order to verify).

This transportation contract is only available to families who live outside of the boundary area at the following schools:

  • Dr Ken Sauer School
  • Crestwood STEM School

This funding will not be provided to families who live inside the Dr. Ken Sauer School boundary area and choose to drive their child(ren) to school, unless approved by the transportation coordinator.

What if we move halfway through the school year and are not able to fulfill the contractual obligation?
This will be handled on a case by case basis, please contact transportation@sd76.ab.ca to inquire.

What if we have a family circumstance as follows?

  • Two homes, where one parent lives inside the boundary area and is eligible for bussing and the other parent lives outside the boundary area?
    •  We are only funded to provide transportation for one primary address. Parents need to choose if their child will receive bussing or will be driven under the transportation contract.
  • Two homes, where both parents live outside the boundary area at two different addresses?
    • We will only issue a transportation to one parent at a primary address, it is up to the parents to decide how they choose to manage this process.

Will this parent transportation contract be available next year?
While are hopeful that this option will continue, it remains uncertain. Alberta Education provides funding on a yearly basis, so we can’t make decisions for the future when we haven’t received the budget.
