Education Plan 2026-2030 | Year 1
2026 to 2030 Education Plan | Year 1
Medicine Hat Public School Division’s 2026 to 2030 Education Plan outlines a clear and collaborative vision to support student success, wellbeing, and future readiness. The plan is grounded in extensive engagement with students, staff, families, and community partners, and draws on multiple sources of evidence to support responsive and transparent decision making.
A key outcome of this process is the shift from four universal goals to three. This change reflects what we heard consistently through survey responses, advisory groups, student voice, and leadership conversations. Stakeholders identified a need for greater alignment, clarity, and responsiveness to the complexity of today’s classrooms, while emphasizing strong foundational learning, inclusive and supportive environments, and preparation for an evolving future.
The division’s work will now be guided by three interconnected goals:
|
Together, these priorities reflect a shared commitment to equitable and inclusive learning environments, meaningful relationships, and an integrated approach to student success. Rather than treating areas such as wellness, inclusion, and Truth and Reconciliation as separate priorities, they are intentionally embedded across all three goals. This approach recognizes that academic achievement, belonging, and future readiness are interconnected and must be developed together.
The plan places a strong emphasis on foundational literacy and numeracy, high quality instructional practices, and flexible learning environments that respond to diverse learner needs. Purposeful use of both digital and non digital learning experiences supports engagement and deep learning, while ongoing collaboration with students and families strengthens assessment and reporting practices.
Creating safe and caring school and work communities is also central to this work. Students, staff, and families benefit from environments where they feel connected, valued, and supported. This includes a focus on wellness, strong relationships, and responsive systems of support within schools and across the division. Partnerships with families and community organizations play an important role in supporting student growth and success.
Looking ahead, the plan prioritizes preparing learners for a changing world by strengthening communication, critical thinking, and real world learning opportunities. Flexible pathways, including career education and dual credit programming, will support students in exploring their interests and making informed choices about their futures. Recognizing that each learner’s journey is unique, a range of responsive programming options is essential.
A continued commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit student success is embedded across all three goals. This work is supported through authentic partnerships and a system wide approach that deepens understanding of Indigenous perspectives and honours the growing number of students who self identify as First Nations, Métis, and Inuit.
Together, this plan reflects Medicine Hat Public School Division’s dedication to continuous improvement, community engagement, and ensuring every learner is supported to grow, belong, and succeed.
